From 17th of April to 7th of May, 2023 we invite you to Beata Kurkul's exhibition "Fighting Ukraine". 23 of the artist's works will be exhibited in the the central square inside the shopping centre OZAS. The exhibition is free of charge during the opening hours of OZAS shopping centre (10:00 - 21:00).

About the exhibition

In the far future, legends will be told about those times. About people and their feelings, battles and hard choices. About love to their land and towns, their country, language and culture. About events that resulted in appearance of people of different faiths, attitudes and professions on the battlefield. Meanwhile, Ukraine is still fighting for freedom, for the people to be free and their own language, for the right to cherish their culture and live in peace.

The exhibition "Fighting Ukraine" will feature works created from 2014, when the first stage of this brutal war began, to the present. Some of the artworks are based on Ukrainian mythology, which sounds anew since 24 February 2022. Others are portraits of real soldiers and some depict events. All these pieces are united by the indestructible desire of Ukrainians to live and their determination to fight for it to the end.

About the author - Beata Kurkul

The author is Beata Kurkul, a Lithuanian citizen, living and working in Kiev, Ukraine, since 2008. Currently, she works as a 2D artist and creative director at a Ukrainian computer game development studio. Since 2014, when the hybrid war with Russia started, Beata's husband has been volunteering. Beata assisted him and started drawing Ukrainian border guards first and then other officers and soldiers from different military structures. Together with the Ukrainian Border Guard Service, a number of exhibitions have been arranged at various units across Ukraine, including Mariupol (2016). Beata has visited the war zone for several times.

After Russia attacked Ukraine in 2022, Beata stayed in Kiev and continues her work, painting Ukrainian soldiers (those who were killed as well). The main tools are a Wacom graphic tablet, Photoshop, iPad with Procreate, and traditional pencils, markers, etc. Recently, Beata has started using artificial intelligence – the neural network MidJourney. Her works vary from portraits to large compositions, and one of the main elements that make her works identifiable to her fans are the clouds and light – they make war-themed works look airy and fantastic.
